Der Film ist witzig, ohne ins Klamaukige zu fallen, politisch unkorrekt, aber nicht spöttisch. Es ist eine provozierende Fabel mit Tiefgang über menschliche Schwächen und göttliche Willkür, die ihre Protagonisten in einen genauso absurden wie komischen Kampf zwischen Gut und Böse verstrickt. "Adams Äpfel" ist eine bitterböse Komödie, deren skurriler Humor gelegentlich mit deftigen Sprüchen und heftigen Gewaltausbrüchen garniert ist. Der Film ist eine mit biblischen Verweisen spielende Parabel voller absurder Überraschungen - realistisch und märchenhaft zugleich. Der Drehbuchautor und Regisseur des Films Anders Thomas Jensen gehört zu den gefragtesten Filmemachern Dänemarks. "How deep is your love?" der Refrain des alten Hits der Bee Gees ertönt mehrmals und stellt zugleich eine der Leitfragen dieses Films. Wie tief, wie ausdauernd - aber auch wie konfrontativ, selbstzerstörerisch und schonungslos realistisch - kann und muss Liebe sein? Der gerade aus dem Gefängnis entlassene Skinhead Adam kommt für zu Resozialisierungsmaßnahmen in eine kleine ländliche Kirchengemeinde und trifft dort auf den Pfarrer Ivan. Dieser zeigt Adam den Pfarrhof und stellt ihm seine neuen Mitbewohner vor: Es sind Gunnar und Kahlid, ebenfalls Ex-Straffällige, die zur Resozialisierung auf dem Anwesen leben. Ivan berichtet Adam stolz von seinen Resozialisierungserfolgen und betont, dass "Jeder", der bei ihm auf dem Hof gelebt habe zu einem guten Menschen geworden sei.
