Ziel ist es, den Charakter des Originals so weit wie möglich zu erhalten. Im alphabetisch geordneten Glossar finden sich Erläuterungen zu Fachbegriffen aus der Seefahrt.
About the Author: Friedrich Meister wurde 1848 in Baruth in Brandenburg geboren und starb 1918 in Berlin. Er war ursprünglich ein Seefahrer der alten Schule. Zu seiner Zeit wurde der überseeische Handelsverkehr zum größten Teil noch durch Segelschiffe besorgt. Auf solchen Segelschiffen fuhr Friedrich Meister zehn Jahre lang durch alle Meere. Dabei lernte er fremde Länder und Völker kennen. Er bereiste China, Siam, Japan und den Südsee-Archipel bis zur Küste von Neu-Guinea und nördlich davon, die Philippinen. Er war in Westindien, Nord- und Südamerika, England, Italien und Griechenland. Er sah die Sultansstadt am Goldenen Horn, das heutige Istanbul, und die Westküsten des Schwarzen Meeres. In Japan erkrankte er an einem Augenleiden, das ihn schließlich dazu zwang, den Seemannsberuf aufzugeben. An Land wusste er zunächst nicht, wovon er leben sollte. Er versuchte dies und das und gelangte schließlich zur Schriftstellerei. Aus dem Vorwort von "Burenblut"
