Die Ehe der zweiten Tochter Carla mit dem Chefarzt Steffen Bergmann gerat in eine Krise, wahrend die KLINIK, in der Bergmann arbeitet, aufgrund steigender INFEKTIONSZAHLEN immer großerer Belastung ausgesetzt ist und sogar ABGERIEGELT WERDEN MUSS. Die DROGENPROBLEMATIK, in der ihr gemeinsamer Sohn Jochen steckt, wird vor allem fur Carla zur großen BELASTUNGSPROBE. Der Plan des Professors, die Zukunft seiner Sammlung in die Hande seiner Familie zu legen, fallt allmahlich in sich zusammen. Er, der ein ganzes Netzwerk an Kontakten pflegte und bis in die Politik und die Beamtenschaft des Landes hinein viele Freunde hat, ist plotzlich gezwungen, auf Einladungen zu verzichten. Dann brechen aufgrund der TURBULENZEN AN DEN BORSEN auch noch die Kurse seiner Aktien ein. Wahrend also alles darauf hindeutet, dass das großartige Lebenswerk niemals an die Offentlichkeit gelangen wird, ist Braitenberg uberzeugt, dass DAS BEISPIEL "DER GROSSEN VON GESTERN" nur umso mehr an Bedeutung gewinnt, je mehr die POLITISCHE UND GESELLSCHAFTLICHE KRISE sich zuspitzt.
