Etre né au Royaume de Saba, être un enfant à Beyrouth pendant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, être un jeune acteur à Paris pendant la Nouvelle Vague, et faire une carrière de chanteur et d'acteur aux Etats-Unis n'est pas un parcours de tous les jours. Jean-Paul Vignon vous décrit ce parcours dans sa biographie étonnante et amusante, "DE L'ETHIOPIE A L'UTOPIE, un voyage insolite dans la musique et l'amour". Pendant son enfance à Djibouti, Jean-Paul rêvait de danser avec Ginger Rodgers et de chanter les chansons de Charles Trenet. Mais il dut aller faire ses études en France, et après sept ans dans un pensionnat de Jésuites en Avignon, un an de Médecine à Marseille et un an de Droit à Paris, il comprit que sa vocation était dans le show business. Il fut engagé par les Disques Barclay, et partagea la vedette du film ASPHALTE avec Françoise Arnoul. Puis un jour l'Amérique l'appela, et il y fit une carrière remarquable. Il eut la chance et le privilège de connaitre et de travailler avec Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan, Lisa Minelli, Red Skelton, Maurice Chevalier, William Holden, Bette Midler et surtout Farrah Fawcett avec qui il enregistra un disque. Ils aimaient beaucoup son dynamisme et la chaleur de sa voix. Son parcours était pavé d'amour, l'amour de la vie, de la musique et évidemment des femmes. Ses expériences romantiques ont illuminé sa vie qui fut pleine d'exotisme et d'élégance, et cela vous fera rêver lorsque vous voyagerez avec lui de l'Ethiopie à l'Utopie !
About the Author: Jean-Paul Vignon naquit en Ethiopie peu avant la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale. Son père était français et sa mère Italienne. Il passa son enfance à Djibouti et fit ses études en France. Sa formation exotique rendit sa vie passionnée, et lui donna un style de chanteur irrésistiblement sensuel. A Djibouti, le petit garçon était déjà captivé par le cinéma et les chansons de Charles Trenet. Plus tard, il admira les fameux auteurs-compositeurs-chanteurs Charles Aznavour et Gilbert Bécaud, et éventuellement il fut emballé par la musique de Frank Sinatra qui devint son idole. Il aimait écouter différents genres de musique, ce qui donna à son style un appel universel. Le jeune Vignon débuta dans des cabarets parisiens, enregistra pour les Disques Barclay, et fut la vedette de deux films français. Lorsqu'il chanta sur le paquebot Le Liberté en route pour les Etats-Unis, des américains lui offrirent l'opportunité de développer sa carrière en Amérique - le rêve de sa vie. A New York il débuta au célèbre cabaret Le Blue Angel où il ouvrit le spectacle pour un jeune Woody Allen. Puis le Ed Sullivan Show lui donna un contrat pour huit spectacles de télévision. Il devint ensuite un invité régulier dans le Merv Griffin Show. Son charme Européen, son humour naturel et son charisme unique enchantaient le public américain. Son premier film à Hollywood fut LA BRIGADE DU DIABLE avec William Holden. Aussi il prêta sa voix dans plusieurs films tels que SHREK et FIVE HUNDRED DAYS OF SUMMER.
