About Author : Dr. R.M. Sarkar,M.Sc. Ph.D. D.Litt. Is a reputed anthropologist well-known in India and abroad. As a devoted researcher in anthropolotical folklore he contributed not only large mass of data to the existing sphere of such study but also his manner of analytical exploration has open up a noval dimension in the domain of folklore as a whole. As an ardent field worker Dr. Sarkar has perfectly been able to make an entry into the inner recess of the folkmind through his full-fledged and time-long participation with the people in their action oriented life ways and thought ways By dint of his earnest appeal he has put a mark in anthropological orientation of the folklore materials collected directly from the field.Dr. Sarkar is a prolific writer and he has contributed hundreds of papers both in english as well as in Bengali to the different scientific and literary journals. Amongst his many books tow viz," Regional Cults and Rural Traditions" and "Bauls of ;Bengal" specifically highlight the superb attempt of evaluating folkloric data though anthropological principles . Dr. Sarkar served for a few decades the pioncering department of anthropology at Bangabasi College, Calcutta. In addition to his responsible assignment as the member of the advisory committee,Anthropological Survey of India, Govt. of India. And member okf the National Committee for the preparation of syllabus in Sociology and Anthropology under the auspices of University Grants Commission. Also Dr. Sarkar is intimately associated with manyu academic institutions of the country, Since 1987 Dr Sarkar has been Working as the Editor, MAN IN INDIA the pioncering international journal of Anthropology.
