About the Book

THE CURE: Remedies for the 5 Ailments That Plague Organizations

In The Cure, author Janet Ioli outlines five common organizational ailments---Robot Syndrome, "In No One We Trust" Toxicity, Yes-itis, Blame Disorder, and Energy Breakdown---identifies their symptoms and main causes, and provides a leadership remedy and treatment plan for each.

Anyone who leads or is part of an organization experiences one or more of the five ailments outlined in The Cure every day. These ailments may be hard to diagnose, but the bold truth is that they are infecting organizations with the deadly diseases of low engagement and inertia. While leaders often recognize these symptoms, many fail to address the root causes and apply the remedies necessary to provide a lasting cure. As leaders, they keep searching for The Cure.

YOU are The Cure

The Cure is based on Janet Ioli's more than 25 years of experience working inside and with organizations as an executive coach, leadership and organizational development consultant, and corporate human resources executive helping leaders to grow, navigate change, and improve their organization's effectiveness.

It's NOT just another book about how to manage or how to lead. The Cure is about the effect leaders who don't role model, practice, and embody basic leadership behaviors have on their organizations.

Through expert insight, real-world examples, and practical tips, Ioli invites leaders everywhere to learn, apply, and embody the behaviors necessary to overcome each deadly ailment:

  • ROBOT SYNDROME is a condition that manifests in organizations when leaders ignore or minimize the people aspects and dynamics associated with key decisions or activities, effectively unplugging the cord of human connection necessary for sustained success and engagement.
  • "IN NO ONE WE TRUST" TOXICITY is an organizational toxic environment characterized by lack of trust and the perception of secret, hidden maneuvering. It builds over time and is a result of an absence of authenticity in communication and interaction.
  • YES-ITIS is an ailment that appears in organizations when employees are not empowered and are afraid to take risks. It manifests as over-agreeability and blind execution without questioning.
  • BLAME DISORDER is an organizational ailment that manifests as a result of low accountability for mistakes and results due to fear of repercussions from failure.
  • ENERGY BREAKDOWN occurs when running on empty becomes the ordinary, expected way of operating within an organization as the price to be paid by employees for the lives they live and the jobs they have---resulting in negativity, a false sense of increased productivity, and deadened enthusiasm and passion.

The Cure shows how leadership inertia and day-to-day behavioral choices affect the health of organizations, with long-term and far-reaching effects on employee engagement, productivity, and overall results. It is a wake- up call for leaders looking for answers to the ailments rampant in their organizations---leaders with a genuine desire to create the environments of connection, authenticity, empowerment, accountability, and balance necessary for the long-term wellbeing of their organizations.

As the leader---YOU are The Cure.
