Aus dieser Verknappung von Arbeitskräften resultiert für Unternehmen ein Wettstreit um Fachkräfte - dieser wird sich auch aufgrund globalisierter Konkurrenzverhältnisse von Unternehmen deutlich verschärfen. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich die Frage, was den Verbleib von Mitarbeitenden in Unternehmen beeinflusst - und damit nicht zuletzt das Fortbestehen des Unternehmens gewährleistet. Im Fokus dieser Arbeit steht die theoretische Konzeptualisierung sowie Abgrenzung von Commitment und Identifikation. Vor dem Hintergrund der theoretischen Ausführungen diskutiert und reflektiert die Arbeit die praktischen Potenziale und Grenzen von Commitment und Identifikation in der Realität von Organisationen und ihren Mitarbeitenden. Mit dieser Analyse sollen Erkenntnisfenster geöffnet werden, die nicht nur im akademischen Diskurs verhaftet bleiben, sondern nicht zuletzt auch in der (Personalmanagement-)Praxis einer kritischen Einordnung und Anwendung von Maßnahmen der Commitment- und Identifikationsförderung dienlich sein sollen.
