Aussi, dans un texte de 1935, plutôt que de nouvelles c'est de fragments qu'il voudrait qu'on qualifie sa prose courte, dont l'histoire de la petite Japonaise est remarquable de concision. Le lecteur est le plus souvent déconcerté. [...] Dans Hallucinations les couleurs sont plus vives et plus prégnantes. Faire quelque chose à partir de rien. L'ambition suprême de Racine. Existe-t-il plus noble ambition ? Et puis, estomper la ligne entre le réel et l'irréel. Le lecteur manque d'habileté, disons-le, tant qu'il présume chez moi une conscience du travail achevé. Mais dans notre pays la question du lecteur est encore plus critique. À vous laisser tenter par cette lecture, vous risquez tout au plus des rencontres: peut-être que le Cioran de Glorieuse journée à Cernica est bien le double d'Emil, et l'oncle de Grand-mère se prépare à mourir le critique Eugen Lovinescu.Extrait: "Les derniers jours avant son départ, Sandu prit congé des endroits qui lui étaient familiers à Paris. Il traversa le jardin du Luxembourg, admira l'Olympia de Manet au Louvre, il choisit sa dernière lecture parmi un million de livres à la Bibliothèque nationale, se promena dans une embarcation gracieuse sur la Seine, se faufila à travers la cohue des Grands boulevards et de retour à l'hôtel à chaque fois qu'une pause s'imposait, regardait une nouvelle fois les nouveaux disques, désirant percer leur mystère à la seule force du regard, trésor dissimulé dans une cassette dont la clé s'est perdue."
About the Author: Anton Holban est un écrivain roumain majeur né le 10 février 1902 et décédé le 15 janvier 1937, neveu du grand critique Eugen Lovinescu. Il est l'auteur de romans dans une veine psychologique et autobiographique, ainsi que de nombreuses nouvelles. Francophile, il étudia en France, notamment à Dijon et enseigna longtemps le français. Homme de théâtre également, mais de santé fragile, il avait acquis, peu avant sa mort, une forme de reconnaissance. Il décéda le 15 janvier 1937 des suites d'une intervention chirurgicale banale. Une partie importante de son oeuvre fut publiée à titre posthume. En Roumanie, ses oeuvres complètes ont été éditées et sont toujours lues aujourd'hui. Anton Holban is a major Romanian writer. He was born on the 10th of February 1902 and died on the 15th of January 1937. He was the nephew of famous literary critic Eugen Lovinescu. He wrote autobiographical and psychological novels, short stories and plays. As a francophile, he had studied in France and taught French at various schools. Shortly before he died, he gained public recognition. His health was delicate and he died on the 15th of January 1937 while undergoing a seemingly ordinary surgical operation. Part of his works was published post mortem. In Romania, his Complete Works were edited and are still read today.
