El proceso del pasaje de ser un imperio colonizador a país receptor de la inmigración de las ex-colonias no ha terminado aún en Francia. Y luego están los resabios del mayo francés y del flower power. Para todos, considerando los estándares machistas de la época que les tocó vivir, es su padre adoptivo Stéfano Bonelli el célebre detective mientras ella su asistente que toma notas, pero en la interna de la dupla detectivezca los roles están bien establecidos: Edith es la mujer de acción, la que investiga y deduce, y Stéfano es la cara visible ante la prensa y su ayudante incondicional, con un talento natural para la personificación y los interrogatorios solapados.
Mientras tanto, un club de caza privado cercano a Poitiers, La Redención, parece estar ofreciendo algo más que un coto de caza para ricos. Por una suma... parece estar ofreciendo cualquier cosa.... es decir: cualquier cosa que uno pudiera desear por una suma.

Stephen H. Grey nos deja ver en esta, la primera novela escrita con su personaje de ficción favorita Edith Bonelli como protagonista, algo de los orígenes de la mujer de acción, una anti-heroína imperfecta, como todos, con vicios, auto-reproches constantes y deseos recurrentes de no ser lo que decidió ser como profesión. Un ser intenso que a su vez tiene que sobreponerse a fuerza de coraje y auto-control para cumplir con lo que mejor se le da hacer: dar a quienes han perdido seres queridos la posibilidad del duelo, de al menos saber qué ha sido de los que se hayan desaparecidos, y de ser posible: recuperarles.
