About the Book

Vincent, Philippe et Jonas sont amis d'enfance. La quarantaine passée, les trois hommes se retrouvent le temps d'un week-end. Vincent a bâti une famille avec Chiara, tandis que Jonas semble se complaire entre son travail et quelques compagnes de passage. Quant à Philippe, il vit une relation instable avec Louise avec qui il n'imagine pas de lendemain. Pendant ces quelques jours ensemble, les souvenirs ressurgissent. Chacun retrouve ses habitudes, son caractère, sa peau d'avant, jusqu'à ce que Chiara ne découvre l'existence de Laure, que Vincent a follement aimé autrefois et dont il n'a jamais parlé jusqu'à présent. Elle tente alors de reconstituer le passé de ces trois hommes et de comprendre qui était Laure, morte vingt ans auparavant dans des circonstances restées inexpliquées.

Un excellent roman sur le coeur des hommes, peint avec délicatesse par Ninon Maréchale. Ils sont trois à partager ce même souvenir, ce même amour, ce même secret qui a fait d'eux trois hommes différents dans leurs relations amoureuses. Des sentiments tout en retenue, des non-dits qu'on devine, des personnages au caractère décrit avec justesse... et une maison dans laquelle on aimerait être invité pour y goûter les confitures et y sentir l'odeur de l'herbe après la pluie. Cela ressemble à un film, un peu grave, nostalgique aussi, avec des flash back. Avec un joli style, féminin (la description du jardin avec le nom des plantes dont on n'est pas sûr, par exemple), délicat, sensible, et des sentiments tout en retenue, des non dits qu'on devine, des personnages au caractère décrit avec justesse, qu'on quitte un chapitre avant de les retrouver au suivant. C'est remarquable. Un univers sensoriel rendu et palpable dans cette grande maison. Et une intrigue dont la simplicité apparente s'effondre pour dévoiler et laisser place à la complexité de l'être humain, des êtres humains. Le paradoxe, c'est que plus on avance dans le livre, plus l'intrigue psychologique, voire le suspense se noue. Comme dans la vie, c'est à la fin qu'on fait le bilan...
