About the Book

Dopo la pubblicazione del suo primo romanzo e viste le ripercussioni da esso generate, l'autore ha continuato la storia con Il canto della rondine, un'opera che, pur riprendendo una parte del romanzo precedente, ha un'impronta propria.

La storia si svolge in un periodo di rivoluzioni, rivolte e lotte internazionali. E in mezzo a questo scenario, in un'Argentina convulsa e scossa da un'estrema violenza politica, quella degli anni Cinquanta, una donna cerca di sopravvivere non solo a una realtà segnata dal dolore e dalla paura di un Paese sempre più complesso, ma anche al peso e alla monotonia di un matrimonio infelice e di una vita vuota e senza scopo.

L'unica soluzione possibile è andare alla ricerca del "suo scopo" e lo troverà in una rivoluzione che, pur non appartenendogli, gli darà il senso che desidera.

È proprio questo percorso che la condurrà tra i semi della rivoluzione cubana in compagnia del "Che" e di Fidel Castro.

Contesto storico

Un gruppo di giovani rivoluzionari, denominati "Generazione del Centenario" e guidati da Fidel Castro, decisi a rovesciare Fulgencio Batista (dittatore di fatto tra il 1952 e il 1959 a Cuba), tentò di conquistare la Caserma Moncada e la Caserma Carlos Manuel de Céspedes nel 1953, ma fallì nel tentativo. Batista riuscì a fermare la rivolta, li processò e li mandò in prigione. Dopo quasi due anni di privazione della libertà, Fidel Castro e i suoi compagni sono stati liberati grazie a un'amnistia. Ben presto formarono l'M-26-7, un movimento per rovesciare il dittatore. Si diressero in Messico per riorganizzarsi e stabilire legami con gli alleati che simpatizzavano per la causa. Nel 1956, insieme a un gruppo di guerriglieri tra cui Ernesto Guevara, salpò sul Granma per arenarsi nelle mangrovie di Playa Las Coloradas, a Cuba. Disorientati e dispersi, non poterono realizzare immediatamente i loro piani e dovettero rifugiarsi nella Sierra Maestra. È lì che Il canto della Rondine raggiungerà il suo apice e un esito del tutto inaspettato.
