Auf einer monatelangen Reise im Dreiviertelkreis durch Nordamerika befinden sich Boris und Helge. Zwei Menschen in der Fremde, aneinander gebunden durch einen Vertrag. Der 15-jährige Boris reist um sein Leben. Als schwieriger, beinahe hoffnungsloser Fall, welchem der soziale Abgrund und eine Haftstrafe droht, schickt ihn das Jugendamt mit einem Einzelbetreuer auf eine Radtour durch Nordamerika, ausgerüstet nur mit einem Fahrrad, Zelt und Schlafsack. Fernab der Heimat, seiner Familie und Peergroup soll Boris keine Chance haben, aus seinem Leben zu entfliehen. So strampelt er auf Tausenden von Kilometern hinter, neben und manchmal auch vor seinem Betreuer her. Auch Helge "reist". Das tut er bereits das zweite Mal. In dem Projekt wittert er die Chance, sich für das erste zu rehabilitieren, was seiner Meinung nach nur suboptimal verlaufen war. Nun will er alles besser machen, wovon vor allem der Jugendliche profitieren soll. Zwischen Reifenpannen, "verrückten" Bekanntschaften, manchmal auch verschroben aber auch großherzigen Einheimischen und einer unvergleichlich grandiosen Naturkulisse entwickelt sich schnell eine Beziehung zwischen Boris und seinem Betreuer Helge In humorvoll kommentierter Tagebuchform skizziert das Buch Boris: Letzte Chance Amerika den Verlauf einer autobiografischen Reise, die akribisch Kilometer zählt und dabei oft tief ins Innere führt. Die vorliegende Literatur spiegelt nicht nur Höhen und Tiefen eines eines individualpädagogischen Reiseprojektes, sondern liefert auch einen authentischen Reisebericht, der Kanada, die Vereinigten Staaten und auch Mexiko in seiner Kultur, Landschaft und Bevölkerung eindringlich schildert, abseits aller Hochglanzprojekte.
About the Author: Helge Dahmen, geboren 1964 in Moers am Niederrhein. Beendete zu Beginn des 11. Schuljahres abrupt seine Schullaufbahn, um im dritten Anlauf eine Ausbildung zum Betriebsschlosser im Bergbau erfolgreich zu beenden. Nach Erwerb des Fachabiturs auf dem zweiten Bildungsweg, Studium der Sozialwissenschaften. Seit 1996 kontinuierlich in pädagogischen und auch handwerklichen Berufen tätig, unter anderem sechs Jahre als Individualpädagoge im In- und Ausland. Sein Hobby ist gleich einer Passion - die Arbeit als Fußballtrainer. Mit Unterbrechungen vollzieht er das seit 1985 in verschiedenen Amatuervereinen. Helge Dahmen ist Inhaber der Trainer-B-Lizenz. Seit Oktober 2005 lebt er in einer festen Beziehung mit seinem männlichen Lebensgefährten und bleibt seitdem seiner ursprünglichen heimat, dem Niederrhein, treu
