About the Author: Paul D. Veverka is a qualified, full time Construction Commercial Manager who has worked on several high profile major Scottish infrastructure projects, recently managing commercial aspects of the new Queensferry Crossing. Often working in a claims or troubleshooting environment, he has a flair for collecting information, unraveling data, searching for facts and recording it in a way that can be understood and utilized. This skill has almost certainly assisted his hobby, in researching Blantyre's past. Blantyre history in the form of his 'Blantyre Project' is his passionate hobby and has consumed almost all of his spare time since 2011. His passion for Blantyre and collecting memorabilia and historical data comes from his late mother, Janet Duncan Veverka (d2009) who was interested in the history of Blantyre. Paul has collected stories, news, postcards and photos about Blantyre since 1985, when he was just 14 years old! Paul (born 1971) lives in Blantyre, writes, "Since the Millennium, a lot of incorrect information has appeared online about Blantyre, so I took the opportunity to correct it and tell it properly. Having a child and often working away has afforded me time to write each evening either when my daughter goes to bed, or if I'm working away, in hotels and B&Bs. Naturally, I'm very proud in what I've accomplished." Paul was co-founder & Chairperson of Blantyre Community Committee for 5 years from Apr 12-Mar 17 and is still involved. He's well known & respected in Blantyre with a high profile in community life, a member of various local community organizations. He also runs Blantyre Telegraph, which publishes a monthly newspaper, which has so far raised a five figure sum in recent years for over 90 charitable Blantyre good causes. He is sole organizer of the annual Blantyre Oscars event. In 2017, he also had the honour of naming new streets in Greenhall Village, High Blantyre. Paul is now an accomplished local history author with 8 successful Blantyre history books already published to 13 different countries, representing by far the largest volume of Blantyre history ever published globally. He has amassed an abundance of local history knowledge. This is his largest book to date. Proceeds from all his books directly benefit the community and non-profit making. Paul, never one to be idle, is currently progressing plans to make this large archive more official, accessible and permanent for future generations, including those offline.
