Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - Deutschland - 1848, Kaiserreich, Imperialismus, Universität Potsdam, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Am Morgen des 14. September 1914 betrat erstmals ein britischer Armeekommandant deutsches Territorium. Es handelte sich dabei um Brigadegeneral auf Zeit Nathaniel W. Barnadiston, der mit seinen Truppen, bestehend aus Engländern und indischen Sikhs, den Japanern in ihrem Belagerungskampf um das chinesische Tsingtau beistehen, und Großbritannien womöglich ein Stück des Kuchens der einzigen deutschen Kolonie in Kontinentalasien, Kiautschou sichern sollte. Gegen die mit starken Verbänden angerückten Angreifer, konnten die deutschen Schutztruppen letztendlich nicht bestehen, was für die deutschen Kolonien im Ersten Weltkrieg bekanntermaßen nicht eben unüblich war. Diese Arbeit ist jedoch nicht der Beschreibung der Belagerung von Tsingtau gewidmet - diesem Thema nahm sich, recht ausführlich, bereits Charles B. Burdick in seinem Werk: "The Japanese Siege of Tsingtau", an, welches hierbei auch als Vorlage diente. Vielmehr soll am Beispiel Tsingtau untersucht werden, wie sich die Flottenpolitik des Großadmirals von Tirpitz, der die Bucht von Kiautschou als Flottenkommandant selbst examiniert und für brauchbar befunden hatte, auf diese Überseebesitzung ausübte. Als Hintergrund dieser Betrachtung dienen dabei die für das Beispiel Tsingtaus beinahe prophetischen Worte Bismarcks: "Wir haben eine Flotte, die nicht fahren kann...und wir dürfen keine verwundbaren Punkte in fernen Weltteilen haben, die den Franzosen als Beute zufallen, sobald es losgeht." Zwar sprachen die Franzosen, die Tsingtau zum Verhängnis wurden, Japanisch. Aber hatte Bismarck nicht schließlich doch Recht behalten? Um jene Zusammenhänge näher zu beleuchten, wird sich diese Arbeit zuerst mit dem Verhältnis von Marine und Kiautschou/Tsingtau, speziell mit dem Tirpitz', beschäftigen und Einblick in die Lage in der Vorkriegszeit nehmen.
