Während einer 21-tägigen Atlantiküberquerung von Teneriffa nach Barbados unterhält abendlich an Bord der Segeljacht "Esperanza" eines der älteren Crewmitglieder die Besatzung mit Storys aus seinem Leben. Hannes Färber erzählt von Erfahrungen einer Generation, die 70 Jahre nach dem Ende des II. Weltkriegs als Ausklang ihres Lebens auf eine sehr unterschiedlich empfundene bewältigte oder auch nicht bewältigte Vergan-genheit zurückblickt. Diese Menschen gehören einer Zwittergeneration an. Es sind die Jahrgänge 1930 bis 1935, die, in Kindheit und frühester Jugend ideologisch einseitig ausgerichtet, begeistert das Hakenkreuz im Herzen führten und sich nach 1945, von Eltern und Erziehern allein gelassen, selbst ein Bild vom demokratischen Gedankengut machen mussten. Hannes Färber als Protagonist dieser Generation erzählt vom persönlichen Erleben eines Zeitraums von 50 Jahren, wie die in die Bundes-republik Hineingewachsenen zwischen die Mahlsteine der Ent-scheidung gerieten, sich entweder den immer noch einflussreichen Ewiggestrigen anzuschmiegen oder auf diese Vorteilsnahme zu verzichten, dargestellt in drei Bänden jeweils mit den Untertiteln: "Die Flut" als Band 1 "Die Welle" als Band 2 und "Die Ebbe" als Band 3 Band 1 "Die Flut" beschreibt die mühsamen Schritte der in das Dritte Reich Hineingeborenen auf dem Weg heraus aus den Wirren der letzten Kriegstage und Nachkriegszeit hinein in die angeblich ideologisch unverstellten Gestaltungsräume des neuen demokratischen Deutschlands. Band 2 "Die Welle" berichtet von der Orientierungssuche der in das Dritte Reich Hinein-geborenen in der Welt des Deutschen Wirtschaftswunders. Familiäres Glück des Hannes Färber und eine himmelstrebende Karriere als Pilot bei den Marinefliegern bereitet dem Angepassten die Erfüllung vieler Wünsche, bis ein Flugunfall ihm zum Verhängnis wird.
