Die Diskussionen um Kontinuitaten und Umbruche zwischen dem spaten Mittelalter und der Reformationszeit notigen zu einer Klarung der historiographischen Stellung der Reformation. Im Zentrum der einzelnen Studien des ersten Buches steht die Frage nach dem "Anfang" der Reformation als eines in sich komplexen Ereignisses. Dabei zeigt sich, dass die literarischen Akteure der reformatorischen Bewegung, allen voran Luther, Traditionen konstruierten, in denen sie ihre Anliegen legitimierten und plausibilisierten. Dem Verfasser geht es im Kern darum, Luther und die unterschiedlichen Rezeptionen, die ihm zuteilwurden, aufeinander zu beziehen. Dies wird vornehmlich an Texten und Sachverhalten der fruhen 1520er Jahre aufgezeigt. Im zweiten Buch setzt Thomas Kaufmann bei der Bedeutung des Buchdrucks fur Verlauf und Gestalt der Reformation an. Er rekonstruiert zunachst, inwiefern die Reformatoren als "Printing Natives" fruhzeitig Kontakte zu Buchdruckern unterhielten, Verfahren beschleunigter Buchherstellung entwickelten und die Strukturen des Buchmarkts genauestens kannten. Sodann betrachtet der Verfasser die Rolle der Buchdrucker und ihrer Familien. In einem letzten Schritt arbeitet der Autor anhand von Schlusselgattungen und -texten der fruhen Reformation heraus, dass die reformatorischen Publizisten innerhalb kurzester Zeit traditionelle akademische Diskursformen vermittels des Buchdrucks radikal veranderten und neue, ihren Bedurfnissen entsprechende Gattungen schufen. Nach Auffassung des Verfassers bildete die Interaktion zwischen den reformatorischen Inhalten und ihrer typographischen Reproduktion die Mitte der Reformation. Im dritten Buch untersucht Thomas Kaufmann die Publikationen der sogenannten "Herrgotts Kanzlei", die in der Zeit der Interimskrise in Magdeburg uber 400 Drucke produzierte und so den einzigen wirksamen Widerstand gegen die Religionspolitik Karls V. artikulierte. Ausgehend von einer Rekonstruktion des protestantischen 'Erinnerungsortes' "Herrgotts Kanzlei", der insbesondere durch Wilhelm Raabes gleichnamigen Roman grosse Popularitat erlangte, werden die infrastrukturellen Voraussetzungen, vor allem die Drucker, vorgestellt, das Material kategorisiert und in literarischer, publikationsstrategischer und theologischer Perspektive quantitativ und qualitativ analysiert. Von hier aus fallt ein neues Licht auf den Vorgang der Reformation als Ganzen. Hier sind alle drei Bande im Paket zum Sonderpreis erhaltlich.
