William Amos our immigrant ancestor, was born in England abt 1690 and died in 1759 in Baltimore County, MD, in that portion which later became Harford County in 1773. He and his wife were buried on the family homestead but when the property (later called Mt Soma) went out of the possession of his descendants, their remains were moved to the Fallston cemetery at the Friends Meeting House. He was not a Quaker but his son William was. William Amos, Sr. was laid to rest beside his son's grave and a stone properly acquired at that time was engraved "William Amos of England. Died 1759." Of his wife we know only that her name was Ann, shown by the register of births of their children and by the mention in his Will, showing that she outlived him. An unmarked crude stone supposedly marks her grave at Fallston.This interesting surname, found as Amos and Amoss, is of French or Biblical origin.
