Länder - Neueste Geschichte, Europäische Einigung, Note: 2, Philipps-Universität Marburg (Fachbereich Neuere und Neuste Geschichte), Veranstaltung: PS: Die Abtreibungsdiskussion: ein historischer Überblick, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Jahr 1852 trat das österreichische Strafgesetzbuch in Kraft, dass allerdings nur eine Neuausgabe des StGB von 1803 war. In ihm waren unter anderem die §§ 144ff 1 festgehalten, die sich auf den Schwangerschaftsabbruch bezogen. Trotz dieser Gesetze stieg die Dunkelziffer der Abtreibungen in den Folgejahren. Deshalb entstanden im Jahr 1934 § 344 und § 357a und 1937 das "Bundesgesetz zum Schutze des keimenden Lebens" um den Abbrüchen entgegenzuwirken.2 Diese blieben bis auf das "Bundesgesetz zum Schutze des keimenden Lebens", das nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg nicht mehr in das Gesetz aufgenommen wurde3, bis 1975 bestehen. Trotz heftiger Kritik einzelner Organisationen, die eine Liberalisierung des Gesetzes forderten, wie auch der 1919 gegründete Bund gegen den Mutterschaftszwang und den rassenhygienischen Gesetzen der Deutschen in den Jahren des Zweiten Weltkrieges, änderte sich daran nichts. Die Fristenregelung, die am 1.1.1975 in Kraft trat, legalisiert eine Abtreibung in den ersten drei Monaten, da in diesem Zeitraum eine Abtreibung für die Mutter weniger gefährlich sei als später. Weiterhin erlaubte sie die Abtreibung zwischen dem vierten und sechsten Monat, im Falle einer Medizinische-, Eugenische- oder einer Unmündigkeitsindikation und vom siebten bis neunten Monat, wenn eine unabwendbare Lebensgefahr für die Mutter besteht. Wie war und ist die Stellung der Frau in der Alpenrepublik und wie reagierte ihre Bevölkerung, deren Politiker und Ärzte, aber vor allem die Kirche auf die legislativen Regelungen? Diesen Fragen wird sich hier gewidmet.
