Joanne T BraithwaiteJo Braithwaite is the great (x6) granddaughter of John Randall, a slave of African heritage, born in Connecticut in 1763, who was also on the First Fleet to Australia. Her family lived in Carlingford Sydney, a suburb once known as Dixieland, where may convicts of African descent settled, and where John Randall was granted land on his release. In fact Jo was married within metres of where he stood surveying his land, thinking of the descendants who would be free because of his actions.She has an MA Professional Practice (Creative Writing) Program at the University of the Sunshine Coast and an MA in Behavioural Psychology (Macquarie University).
