She enjoys knitting, wood-carving, and Scottish dancing, and participates in regular meetings of trans people in her community. Though not autobiograhical, Lady in Waiting draws on both her own real-life experiences and those of her late wife. It is her hope that her novel might help cis people with little or no experience of transgender issues to understand the severe struggles that both the trans person and the spouse experience over many years.
