Die Arbeit ist grundsätzlich in zwei Teile gegliedert: einen theoretischen Teil und einen empirischen Teil. Zu Beginn wird geklärt, was im Rahmen der Arbeit unter dem Begriff Lernen und Gedächtnis verstanden wird und welche Variablen diese beeinflussen. Hierbei soll herausgefunden werden, auf welchem Weg Kinder am besten lernen. Danach beschäftigt sich der Autor mit dem Thema Lernstrategien im Kontext des Fremdsprachenlernens in der Grundschule. Das Konzept der Lernautonomie wird hier vorgestellt, das in Bezug zum Begriff Learning Awareness, Lerntypen und Lernstrategien gesetzt wird. Die genauere Betrachtung der Lernstrategien erfolgt in einem weiteren Punkt. Darüber hinaus werden Konzepte eines Lernstrategietrainings beschrieben. Abschließend folgt auf den theoretischen Teil der empirische Teil. Hier wird die selbst durchgeführte empirische Untersuchung vorgestellt, Bezug auf die Lernstrategien genommen, deren Ergebnisse ausgewertet, auf mögliche Probleme hingewiesen und ein möglicher Ausblick gegeben. Im Anhang finden sich die Tests und die Auswertungen der Tests. Um Kinder optimal zu fördern müssten Lehrkräfte alle Stärken und Schwächen der Schüler erkennen. Somit kann die Notwendigkeit für die Vermittlung von Lernstrategien im Unterricht festgestellt werden. Nur ein Unterricht, in dem die Schüler viele verschiedene Lernstrategien zur Lösung unterschiedlicher Aufgaben kennen und anwenden lernen, ist geeignet, die Voraussetzung für ein lebenslanges erfolgreiches Lernen zu setzen. Dies gilt auch für den Fremdsprachenunterricht: Hier sind Lernstrategien unabdingbar, da viele Schüler oftmals Schwierigkeiten haben, sich Vokabeln zu merken, aber auch diese beim Sprechen oder Schreiben einzusetzen.
